Airfloat was approached by a large wind power manufacture to help solve
a material handling issue created by limitations in overhead cranes.
Airfloat consulted with the customer, travelling to their location,
working with the engineers and plant personal, resulting in the design
for lifting , moving and articulating the 14,000 lbs shaft and 8,000 lbs
of bearings that are added during the process. This material handling
solution allowed for safe movement and finite location of this large
item, allowing the customer to increase productivity. This system
utilizes air bearing technology, creating friction free movement along
with an air over hydraulic system, designed by Airfloat, for lifting and
manipulation of the wind generator shaft. This permitted the customer
to eliminate overhead cranes and minimize damage to production items.
