Recreational vehicle manufacturer utilizes air bearing technology to manufacture and move partially finished RV chassis and bodies. “Air bearings” or “Air Casters” are commonly used by manufacturers of large-bodied equipment to create lean manufacturing cells for heavy load movement.
One advantage provided by air bearings for this application is the elimination of difficult move patterns created by wheels and overhead crane bottlenecks. These problems are simply solved with the omni-directional movement created by airbearings using air skids.
Traditionally this application was handled with overhead cranes which presented manufacturing delays related to slinging and hoisting and limited the flow of material through the assembly line due to the limited number of cranes available. In addition, the air bearing transporter provided the ability to shuttle between crane bays. Airfloat commonly manufacturers crane bay shuttles and is able to provide greater flexibility in manufacturing.
